Why do you exercise and make being fit such a priority? Do you actually know what your goals are? You stress out over what you eat and making it to the gym for a reason. What is it?
I dont exercise to be the strongest, fastest, most fit, or biggest. I train to make sure my body is ready for anything life throws at me. Just as I would with my career, relationships, and money. I have never been one to be an expert at one particular subject but I have been above average in most. I have found that the main reason I approach life this way is because of work ethic. If there are any things that are consistent in my life they are my traits and strengths. I have always been a self motivated, punctual, hard working, and persistent person with anything it is I approach. So it's no surprise that I treat my fitness the same way as everything else.

Moral of my rant: Don't approach life or a challenge with just one goal in mind. Prepare your mind and body to be ready for anything and the rest will fall into place. Doing some extra conditioning to help you be prepared for that 5k you want to complete next month may in return shed those few pounds of waistline fat you've wanted to get rid of without you even stressing over it. Remember, life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Stay busy!
