Consistency in Moderation

Consistency is the big secret in the fitness world to achieving results. Yes, I said a secret. Everyone knows to see some changes they must be consistent but the problem is they are not seeing the bigger picture. The main focus in being consistent should not just be about making sure you are hitting the gym everyday to get that sweat in. It is important to be consistent with your workouts but in moderation. Don’t get overwhelmed the first few weeks of the challenge with two-a-days, cutting out carbs, or losing sleep to get that extra workout in. I love seeing you all everyday and enjoy whooping your butts into shape but I am making sure you can give your best effort from the first day all the way to the last.

Exercise is good, in moderation. Eating is good, in moderation. Resting is good, in moderation. You need to exercise, eat, and rest if you wish to accomplish your goals this time around. I coach wrestling and see it all the time. My wrestlers will skip a meal, make weight, and binge out on off days. “How do you feel? Like crap coach!” Missing meals will not make you lose fat if you miss a workout that day. Working out for an extra hour will not make you burn off that half gallon of ice cream you ate last night. Waking up after 3 hours of sleep to get to the gym is not going to help you get through your workout at 6am and have enough energy for the rest of the day. You need to find a balance by moderating your exercise, diet, and rest.

So as you are getting pumped up for the challenge next week. Remember the basics of being consistent with your program by using forms of moderation. Exercise regularly but not like a lunatic. Eat regularly but have some portion control. Get to bed early and wake up feeling refreshed. Don’t try to catch up on your sleep by sleeping in on Sundays. It is 6 weeks of your life where each and every day you look to better yourself. It will be something that you can look back at as an experience which was just something new or an experience that changed your life! Be committed, stay committed, give it 100% of your effort and have some fun!
